This role is subject to a additional recruitment and retention premia of £1542 per annum

The team covers both minor and major mental health problems providing a truly integrated, multidisciplinary approach to prisoners with mental health needs within the prison setting.

We provide a service with a single point of access, for the specialist assessment and treatment of people with mental health needs. Utilising the skill mix and services, already available within the prison e.g. Day therapy centre. The team provide the service with a skill mix appropriate to the needs of the users of the service. They arrange and co-ordinate the delivery of health and social care for users and their carers. All care plans are evidence-based and needs-led and delivered by appropriately trained and qualified staff.

We also aim to minimize distress and disability caused by mental illness using methods likely to achieve positive results. We will encourage a person to maintain or gain control over their life and the treatment they receive whenever practically possible.

As a senior CPN you will be part of an emergency response system across the prison, hotel 5, and be required to be part of a duty roster completing initial assessments on patients ensuring appropriate allocation or signposting to services., Act as a positive role model to staff.

Determine nursing care priorities and plans and implement service users care in accordance to best practice and available resources.

Inform Mental Health Team manager when changes occur in circumstances that affect the standards of care.

Maintain effective communication with all disciplines, agencies, carers and service users.

Ensure learners who are allocated to the clinical area are given appropriate teaching, support and guidance in accordance with learning outcomes and unit objectives.

Knowledge, Training and Experience:

Applied understanding of the needs of clients and complex presentations within the prison setting with the priority being safety and security at all times.

Application of research or evidence based interventions to support clinical practice.
