Full Job Description

Mental Health Liaison at the Royal Sussex County Hospital is seeking to appoint a Band 7 Team Leader.

This is a well-established team with a wealth of experience. We are a supportive and caring team, who will welcome a new team member with all they can bring to the team and what we offer.

We are seeking to appoint an individual that can demonstrate that they can offer a wide variety of experience to our team.

You will be working at the interface between physical and psychological health and bring your knowledge and expertise to your general hospital colleagues and team.

We support patients with a wide range of problems, including self-harm, adjustment to illness and physical and psychological co-morbidities. As there is no entrance requirement for A&E people's perceptions of what constitutes a mental health emergency or crisis can vary. Our team are referred people with all sorts of problems, including those people presenting to mental health services for the very first time.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to motivate yourself and others and have experience with HR procedures. You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team; providing leadership and promoting team working. You will oversee and ensure the support and development of the team along with monitoring the team performance.

To support the service manager in the running with first line management for the Mental

Working between the acute trust, police, council and tertiary services is our day to day business. The team also receives referrals for patients who are from other areas of the country but within our hospital.

The post holder will work with the team to develop the pathways, they will oversee supervision and mandatory training. They will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality and high performing team.

To support the team in ensuring that staff in the team have opportunities for continuing professional development, in order to provide best practice and meet the requirements of registering bodies, and to drive improvements in standards of clinical practice and patient care in line with the NHS modernisation and Public Health agendas.

You will be required to make autonomous decisions, based on an analysis of complex presenting problems, while utilising effective clinical judgments about the most appropriate treatment, discharge and follow-up options..

To work with the Team and service manager to actively lead in the delivery of the clinical governance, quality improvement and performance management agenda within an identified locality team.

  • Must hold relevant professional qualification (RMN)


  • Completion of, or working towards, Management or Leadership training


  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)


  • Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge on mental health issues and how these impact on the individual, carer's and the wider community


  • Expertise in current best practice in Adult Mental Health , and awareness of relevant government directives and legislation


  • Specialist knowledge and application of mental health assessments and interventions using expert level clinical reasoning


  • Experience

    Essential

  • 2 years post registration experience in mental health setting (one year of which will be in relevant specialist area)


  • Use of evidence-based practice


  • Extensive clinical experiences including individual and group


  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check

  • Educated to minimum diploma level with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience

  • Evidence of CPD, Significant experience of and demonstrable achievement in clinical practice

  • Experience of providing professional support/supervision and motivation of staff

  • Understanding of Health and Social Care Governance

  • Experience of managing staff, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
