Full Job Description

We are looking for experienced Mental Health Practitionerson ourCrisis Line/111 Mental Health Optionservice. The service is a 24/7 mental health crisis line for anyone who may be in crisis and in urgent need of help with their mental health.

This role is suitable forRegistered Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Social Workerswho are registered with their relevant professional body (NMC/HCPC/Social Work England).

All work istelephone basedworking out of our office base inWorthing. You will not carry a caseloadand will be trained in triage and risk formulation/assessments.

This is a great development role in which you will supervise staff, offer pastoral care and act as a point of escalation for a team of Call Operators.

For this role you will be required to work amixture of shifts.

Our Current shifts patterns are Early (07:00-15:00), L1 (13:00-21:00), L4 (16:00-00:00), Night (20:45-07:15)

Standard sign-up bonus of £4k(paid over two years) for all Band 5 - 7 registered professionals who join clinical teams across the Trust. Pro-rata.

Relocation bonus of up to £8kfor all registered Band 5 - 7 professionals in line with Trust policy, HMRC tax rules and provision of relocation expense receipts.

Increased rates of pay for unsocial hours(some weekend and evening work) as set out under the Agenda for Change (AfC) guidelines., You will be joining a friendly, supportive and dedicated team responding to Sussex-wide callers. The service is free and is available to anyone of any age who is concerned about their own mental health or that of a relative or friend. This includes carers and healthcare professionals.

To be successful in this role you will share our passion, desire and empathetic approach to supporting people of all ages with complex mental health needs, who are often experiencing crisis. The ideal candidate would:

  • Be experienced in risk assessment and management

  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced and varied role

  • Have ability to work autonomously


  • It would also be desirable if you had a background within urgent care/ crisis/ liaison service(s).

    Being a 24/7 service, having a team who are open to flexibility with working patterns is essential as the Mental Health Practitioner role will include some weekend and evening work. As mentioned, this does however bring with it increased rates of pay for unsocial hours. We try really hard to make sure your shifts work for you while also ensuring we can effectively run the 24/7 service.
