Full Job Description

The role of the midwife sonographer in Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) is to provide high standards of midwifery and nursing care to women experiencing problems in the first trimester including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. The midwife works as an autonomous practitioner providing Comprehensive history taking, Diagnostic ultrasound, care planning and informed choice re management of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. A holistic approach to individualised care encompasses the physical and psychological needs of the women, The roles cover seven days per week 12 hours per day and a shift basis. The Midwife is responsible for training of junior staff and the safe and effective running of the EPAU encouraging good working relationships and teamwork. Requires skills and knowledge necessary to perform obstetric ultrasound and independently report the findings, Plan appropriate patient management according to Directorate Guidelines Provide continuity of care to women who regularly attend the department for close monitoring Ensure that the patient environment is conducive to delivery of care Be responsibility for specialised ultrasound clinics with indirect supervision from consultant colleagues. Policy and Service Development Contribute to the development and update of guidelines and pathways, The leadership and improvement programme aims to:
