Midwifery

The Midwife is a healthcare professional who provides comprehensive care to women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Midwives play a crucial role in promoting maternal and child health.

Responsibilities

• Antenatal Care:

+ Provide routine prenatal check-ups and screenings.
+ Assess fetal development and maternal health.
+ Educate pregnant women about healthy pregnancy practices and childbirth preparation.
+ Address common concerns and complications during pregnancy.

• Childbirth:

+ Assist women in childbirth, including natural births, assisted deliveries, and cesarean sections.
+ Monitor the mother and baby during labor and delivery.
+ Provide newborn care, including resuscitation if necessary.

• Postpartum Care:

+ Provide postpartum care, including breastfeeding support, family planning counseling, and newborn care.
+ Assess maternal and infant health and well-being.
+ Identify and address any postpartum complications.

• Community Health:

+ Promote maternal and child health through community outreach programs.
+ Advocate for the rights and needs of women and children.
+ Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community organizations.

• Emergency Response:

+ Respond to obstetric emergencies and provide essential care.


• Midwifery degree or diploma


• Registration with the relevant midwifery board


• Experience in providing midwifery care


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
