Full Job Description

The role of the Mill Operative is to work as part of the Mill team to set up, run and mill the rice by carrying out tasks efficiently to ensure the smooth running of the process.,

  • Ensure the rice is manufactured to plan and to the correct specification and quality.
  • Correctly recycle and label the rice, ensuring re-grade rice is not mixed.
  • Ensure all required materials are on the line, at all times, to meet the plan in order to minimise waste associated with changeovers and running conditions of the mill.
  • Minimise rice and packaging waste by ensuring the mill is correctly set up, the correct rice, packaging and date codes are being used while packaging on the machines.
  • Run the mill at the required speed setting.
  • Assist with the repairs & cleaning of machines (internal & external).
  • Manage the loss time to minimum by ensuring the changeovers, rice changes and shift changes are done as efficiently as possible.
  • Ensure all the paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assisting the Miller with the completion of quality checks.
  • Minimise customer complaints by ensuring the area is always kept clean and a safe environment is maintained.
  • Help the Miller to do rice analysis and ensure its all with in specification.
  • Assist the Miller in daily mill routines and deep cleaning of equipment on the line including elevators.
  • Rip and Tip rice (up to 25kg bags whilst standing on a platform) in Mill 3 as required.
  • Fill tonne bags including standing on steps as required.
  • Load & inspect By-Products (Bran/Chicken feed) during mill operation.
  • Report to the Miller in event of a breakdown or if rice/by-products are out of specification.
  • To always ensure the safety of oneself and others.
  • Help & assist in the training of others and identify own training needs.
  • Complete ad-hoc tasks as required.

    Previous experience in a similar role in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant Food Manufacturing qualifications would be desirable.
  • Proficient in English, both speaking and writing.
  • Keen eye for detail to ensure products remain in line with quality standards.
  • Effectively follow management instructions and able to use own initiative.
  • Excellent Health and Safety awareness.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Flexibility to do the hours required for the role.
  • Team player.
