Full Job Description

At British Gypsum we are looking for a Mine Ancillary Operative, to work in a small, focussed, multi-disciplinary team, at our Marblaegis Mine in East Leake. You'll be responsible for the upkeep of >5km of conveyor belts in the mine as well as assisting the mine with logistics & the move up of key infrastructure on our production areas. Your role will be critical in ensuring production targets are met, meaning an overall positive experience for our customers. This role operates 7am-3pm Monday to Thursday, 7am - 2pm on a Friday., You will be accountable for your own and your colleagues' health and safety, whilst ensuring that all work is carried out to the highest possible standard. You will be expected to have an analytical mind and be able to apply those skills to problem solving and decision making and be able to clearly communicate with others. You will be part of a small team responsible for the maintenance of the conveyance systems in the mine. You may also be required to:

  • Assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of belt equipment (belt, idlers, roller frames, scrapers, guards) through good housekeeping in support of effective continuous improvement.
  • Assume responsibility for the safe and optimal use of conveyer belts by conducting physical inspections and taking immediate action to resolve/escalate problems.
  • First level inspection and observing all conveyer belt equipment to identify deviations. All conveyer belt equipment is inspected continuously to report identified deviations in time to prevent breakdowns and repair.
  • Relocate/extend belts towards in the production mining areas.
  • Familiar with pumps/sumps required for de-watering.
  • Undertake logistics work through the mine as communicated through the Mine Shift Manager
  • May be required to undertake other ancillary tasks when deemed necessary.

    Experience working with conveyor systems, through installation/inspection/maintenance.
  • Experience of LOTO and associated Permits to Work would be an advantage.
  • Experience in operating small mobile plant ie FLT/Bobcat etc.
  • Coming from a mining background would be advantageous but not essential.
