Full Job Description

The Flood and Crime Scene Cleaner is responsible for safely cleaning, sanitising, and restoring environments affected by biohazards, crime, trauma, or flooding. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to handle physically and emotionally challenging situations. The cleaner ensures that all hazardous materials are removed and that the area is restored to a safe, liveable condition, following strict regulatory guidelines., 1. Biohazard and Trauma Scene Cleanup: + Clean, disinfect, and restore areas affected by traumatic events such as homicides, suicides, unattended deaths, accidents, and violent crimes. + Remove biohazard materials such as blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious substances. + Safely handle, package, and dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with health regulations. 1. Flood and Disaster Restoration: + Remove water and moisture from buildings and homes affected by floods or natural disasters. + Clean and restore properties, including drying, dehumidifying, and sanitising contaminated areas. + Manage mould remediation in flood-affected areas and ensure the space is free from harmful contaminants. 1. Compliance with Regulations and Safety Standards: + Follow OSHA, EPA, and local health and safety regulations related to the handling of biohazards, hazardous waste, and flood-damaged properties. + Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves, masks, respirators, and full-body suits during cleanup operations. + Ensure compliance with industry standards such as those set by IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) and ABRA (American Bio-Recovery Association). 1. Specialized Equipment Operation: + Operate and maintain specialised equipment such as air scrubbers, ozone generators, dehumidifiers, moisture meters, HEPA vacuums, and industrial-grade cleaning products. + Ensure that all equipment is functioning correctly and adhere to maintenance schedules. 1. Documentation and Reporting: + Maintain detailed documentation and records of cleaning activities, materials used, and waste disposal procedures. + Provide reports and photographic evidence for insurance claims, compliance audits, or legal purposes. 1. Communication with Clients and Authorities: + Communicate sensitively and professionally with property owners, law enforcement, and other authorities. + Provide updates to clients regarding progress and the status of cleanup efforts. + Offer support and guidance to clients during emotionally difficult situations, explaining procedures and expected outcomes. 1. Decontamination and Odour Removal: + Perform thorough decontamination of spaces to remove lingering odours, harmful substances, and infectious agents. + Utilize odour control techniques such as ozone treatments, enzyme cleaning, and specialized deodorizers. 1. Emergency Response: + Be on-call for emergency cleaning services, often available 24/7 to respond to crime scenes, trauma, or natural disaster cleanup. + Respond rapidly to requests for immediate service in critical situations. Requirements Key Requirements

2. Experience in biohazard clean-up, hazardous waste management, or trauma scene remediation are preferred. 3. IICRC certification in water damage restoration and mould remediation is advantageous. 1. Experience: + Prior experience in biohazard cleaning, crime scene cleaning, or flood restoration is highly preferred. + Previous experience in an industrial cleaning role + Familiarity with regulations governing biohazard and hazardous waste handling. 1. Skills and Competencies: + Technical Skills: Knowledge of cleaning techniques, decontamination, and hazardous material handling. + Attention to Detail: Ability to thoroughly clean and disinfect even the smallest affected areas. + Emotional Resilience: Capacity to handle emotionally distressing and traumatic situations with professionalism. + Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues during cleanup and adapt methods to address unique challenges. + Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact sensitively with clients and authorities. 1. Physical Requirements: + Must be able to lift and carry heavy cleaning equipment. + Able to work in difficult environments, such as confined spaces, areas with structural damage, or unsanitary conditions. + Comfortable wearing full-body protective gear for extended periods. 1. Other Requirements: + Valid driver's license (required). + Ability to work flexible hours, including being on-call for emergencies during nights, weekends, and holidays. + Criminal background check (due to nature of work in crime scenes).
