Full Job Description
To develop, implement and maintain model based architectures for maritime systems (at system of system level and at solution element level including sonar and combat management systems). To capture and present systems design, operational concepts and capability models to meet the project needs, optimising the design through trade-offs to maximise customer and Thales value throughout the full life cycle of the system. To align the solution and detail architectures working closely with Hardware, Software and specialty teams. The need for the role is also driven by the need to upskill and grow the model based practices in UWS and as such will be a lead in defining the local processes and practices in this area, as well as supporting training, development and roll-out of this across the BL., The list below is not exhaustive nor will individuals be expected to be able to undertake all of them. They are given as a guide as to the expected duties of the grade.
- Creating, managing, promoting and delivering innovative Architectures up to System of System for Thales Maritime projects.
- Good understanding of the development lifecycle and lifecycle products.
- Interfacing with the client, to define standards and architectural frameworks.
- Impact Analysis / Variation
- Compliance / Customer requirement resolution
- The defining and authorising of Design Descriptions and Verification objectives.
- Provide modelling advice to the Head of Disciplines on all technical matters and management issues related to the Systems Engineering Function.
- To provide technical direction, training, development and leadership to the Systems Engineering community.
- Interaction with key stakeholders.
- Understanding and embracing customer needs and advising customers.
- Establish and maintain a state of the art structured Systems Engineering process and activity.
- Provide assistance and guidance to the Project Systems Engineers for their responsibilities and design decisions
- Keep abreast of technical development both within and outside of the company.
- Definition of architecting processes for complex SoS solutions.
- Communication with team and building engagement in modelling. Key performance Indicators against Responsibilities and Tasks: This role is continually monitored for performance and as such some of the following typical Key performance indicators (KPI's) will be used

Able to use a range of IT tools, in particular modelling tools. - Has a sound ability to define the use of System Engineering tools, in particular modelling and requirements management.
- Has knowledge of configuration control processes.
- Can manage a complex project through a defined design process and is able to tailor CHORUS2 to project needs.
- Working knowledge of project plans.
- Has knowledge of Engineering Safety & Security Management in the context of architectural design Key Values & Behaviours:

- Engineering Degree or equivalent Essential:
- Have attained professional status (CEng) or equivalent Financial / Budgetary Responsibility:
- The post holder will be expected to deliver designs/projects to an agreed budget. In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
