Full Job Description

All of our simulators mimic the functional behaviour of a spacecraft, so that they are suitable for validating key elements of the complete system. The development of our simulators requires the use of a varied set of software programming languages and tools, but the main software language we use to develop our simulators is C++, which then runs on a Linux workstation. Therefore, ideally you will have at least a basic level of understanding of these key skills that you will develop and are used within many industries.

What you will be doing:

Throughout your placement, you will learn what it takes to write and maintain high quality, reliable software all the way from requirements definition through to software design, coding and test. You will learn software development methods and practices that will enable you to produce high quality solutions.

We will offer you a well-rounded experience that may include:

  • Working closely with our R&D (Research & Development) Technical Lead to develop prototypes of various technology demonstrators;

  • Gain an understanding of DevOPS (Development & Operations) concepts and tooling and how they can be applied to Software as a Service;

  • Investigate the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the use of functional testing or other applications;

  • Investigate the use of third-party tools that can be integrated into our simulators to improve the simulator user experience;

  • Contribute to the development of our spacecraft simulators;

  • Gain an understanding of software development within the Space Industry.

  • While the development of prototypes requires the use of a varied set of software programming languages and tools, the challenges lie in the design and concepts where innovation and an ability to think creatively and critically will be a strong advantage.

  • Studying towards an Engineering or Science degree;

  • Demonstrable knowledge of a high-level programming language ideally (C++ and Python);

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Linux;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex topics in easy-to-understand terms., This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.

    To stay on top, Airbus recognises the importance of supporting high-achieving and talented undergraduates. We do this through offering challenging placement opportunities during which your skills and potential are fully maximised.

  • Our placements give a unique insight into potential career paths within Airbus. They are designed so that you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice and gain crucial industry experience. The skills and knowledge you gain will improve your chances of a future role within the Airbus and should benefit your future studies., Airbus is committed to achieving workforce diversity and creating an inclusive working environment. We welcome all applications irrespective of social and cultural background, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief.

    Airbus is, and always has been, committed to equal opportunities for all. As such, we will never ask for any type of monetary exchange in the frame of a recruitment process. Any impersonation of Airbus to do so should be reported to emsom@airbus.com.
