Full Job Description
To be responsible for leading and coordinating the day-to-day operational management and professional support to the Nursing staff within the District Nursing Service at Castlepoint (Thundersley & Canvey). In addition to working alongside Matrons from neighbouring localities to ensure best quality of care for community patients. The postholder will focus on leading the team to introduce ways of continuously improving the quality of their service and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish. To support the Head of Community Service in delivering the NHS agenda and Trust vision & values within its strategic plans. Take a leading role in transformation for the service including digitalisation and integrated neighbourhood working. To positively contribute to the development of the District Nursing Service. Provision of leadership to locality nursing team to ensure working in collaboration with neighbourhood teams to provide effective provision of services to the local population and provide advice both within and outside own profession. Ensure annual performance appraisals and personal development plans for all staff working within the locality. Lead on recruitment and selection of nursing and support staff for the locality. Ensuring all staff are appropriately prepared for their role through induction and training sessions. Ensure Trust Policy, Procedure and Guidelines are in place and that staff adheres to them, formulating policies within own sphere. Ensuring that current research findings and evidence based practice is integral and integrated into practice. To be responsible for management of the nursing budget for the locality, working within budgetary limits. Continuously review services to ensure the highest standards of clinical care are maintained. Ensure all staff attend mandatory and non-discretionary study days (Infection control, BLS, Manual Handling, Fire and Safeguarding), keeping accurate records to demonstrate this. Ensure compliance with the Care Quality Commission's Standards for better health and collate evidence of compliance on behalf of locality. Develop local practice, which supports the Trust wide systems for managing clinical risk. Identify risks in nursing practice and implement education and communication strategies required to minimise risk to users and staff. To monitor and sign off Datix reports and complete Root cause analysis when necessary. Develop Clinical Audit programmes. The focus will be to ensure current practice is underpinned by up-to-date research based evidence. Ensure appropriate educational training and continued professional development is in place to ensure that clinical staff are aware of and are trained to provide clinically effective care. Ensure a positive and supportive learning environment for student nurses and nurses less than one year from qualification (NMC) and that there are sufficient numbers of registered nurses trained and updated to provide effective mentorship. Undertake the investigation of complaints and serious untoward incidents and utilise opportunities to learn lessons from adverse incidents. Develop service plans to meet agreed strategic direction. Leading the implementation at team level. Key contribution to ensuring managed services are Fit for Purpose, monitoring performance against agreed key indicators. Identify and take forward opportunities for innovation in practice. Work with patient groups to ensure service(s) are meeting the expectations of patients and identify opportunities for acting on patient feedback to enhance the patient experience.. Ensure business objectives and performance is met. Contribute to the development of the service business plans to ensure that Corporate objectives are understood by staff and are achieved. Ensure resources are utilised effectively, through appropriate staff mix, staff education and development and workforce planning. Lead on the procurement of clinical equipment.
