Movement Disorder Specialist Nurse

An exciting oppurtunity has arisen to join the multi disciplinary Parkinson's disease team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

You will act as an advanced practitioner and a specialist resource in both Parkinsons disease and related Neurological Movement Disorders. This will encompass the nursing care and management of people with these conditions, working closely with patients, carers, Consultants and General Practitioners, therapists and social services. The working environment will be in primary and secondary care settings across the trust. You will need to hold an Independent Nurse Prescriber qualification and work independently within local prescribing guidelines.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a key member of the medical and multidisciplinary team, providing highly sensitive information, advice, care management and support regarding patients care and treatment within the hospital and community.

They will both promote and initiate research based nursing and medical practice.

The post holder will identify and address individual needs, setting and implementing programmes of care and identify and address shortfalls in service provision Trust wide.

The post holder will initiate new specialist support developments within the hospital and community settings Trust wide and take an active part in research and development and use evidence-based practice.

The post holder will be aware of the need to network across the speciality of Parkinsons disease and related neurological movement disorders, both locally and nationally.

They will work in partnership to deliver high quality care for those with Parkinsons disease and develop links locally and nationally to improve services.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
