We support the best possible output on all platforms, built on a strong understanding of audience needs and integrated with production teams. Our team is made up of high-end craft, multi-skilled staff. A requirement for high quality output is key to the BBC's reputation at home and abroad. We work in all of the technical areas of BBC News output which includes Gallery operations: lighting, technical coordination, sound mixing, vision mixing and Studio Floor operations: camera operations and floor management.,

  • You will work on a rota pattern which includes weekends, public holidays and night working.

    We are currently looking for a Multi-Skilled Technical Operator who is a Floor Manager specialist and has experience of working on live TV programmes., This role is based in LBH in London and could be to work across any of our English or World Service languages TV News output., A passion for floor managing and experience with broadcast systems. Experience of working in a live news broadcast environment is desirable for this role.
  • You will have excellent organisational and time management skills, excellent IT skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • You will need to have a broad knowledge of national and international news and current affairs; a good understanding of the journalistic and production aims of the output as well as the ability to facilitate editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC's news agenda. An awareness of BBC policy on current Health and Safety regulations and knowledge of news production computer systems is also required.
  • Essential for Floor Managing:
  • Solid experience in floor managing in a live broadcast environment.
  • Understanding of audio (talkback/micing) and basic operational/IT systems. Along with a knowledge of Health & Safety (Risk Assessments/Fire Safety)
  • An excellent communicator who can provide relevant and critical information to the gallery/studio/editorial and to the wider FM team when required.
  • To be reactive and fast thinking and to work quickly/problem solve under pressure to tight deadlines. This includes multi-tasking (i.e speaking to the director at the same time as troubleshooting)
  • Understanding of the opportunities and challenges of working in a team and supporting each other with sharing, prioritising, and delegating tasks

    Media Operations is at the heart of BBC News's creative technical and production capability. We are a team of more than 700 people combining Newsgathering Operations and Output Operations responsible for gathering all the news on location across all platforms, as well as all news studios at NBH and Millbank in London.

Media Operations provides BBC news with TV studio staff across London. Its services include Six O clock and Ten O clock bulletins, BBC News Channel, BBC London, as well as programmes such as Newsnight, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Newscast, Today and a variety of other news and current affairs. The operation also covers BBC Arabic, BBC Persian, BBC New Languages and Millbank.
