Full Job Description
The Bank of England Museum represents both the Bank's history and our work today. It plays a key role in helping to promote understanding of the Bank's role and the wider economy, alongside global economic history. The Museum welcomes a broad range of visitors every year and our exhibitions and events programme is crafted to provide content that reflects visitor interests and needs. The role holder will play a key role in ensuring that visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience when visiting the Museum. The Museum Receptionist will form part of the Museum's front of house team, which runs the Museum on a day-to-day basis, interacting with visitors and providing educational activities for school groups and families. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Opening and closing the Museum and ensuring safety and building security (in conjunction with the Security team)
- Providing assistance and information for visitors about the Bank of England Museum
- Providing visitors with relevant materials e.g. tour guides and activity sheets for children
- Providing assistance to visitors who may have additional access requirements
- Providing administrative support for school and visitor bookings
- Completing regular maintenance checks and reporting/logging any faults
- Liaising with the Security team to ensure the safety and security of staff and visitors
- Overseeing health and safety protocols, and escalating any issues to the Museum Operations Manager
- Supporting the wider events programme e.g. school visits and late opening
- Support other teams within PSE where needed
Experience of using MS Office e.g. Word, Outlook and Excel - The ability to manage own workload
- Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety protocols in a public space
- Strong communication skills and an ability to engage with a wide range of people
- Excellent time management skills Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working in a public-facing role, especially in a visitor attraction/cultural institution
- Experience of supporting public event programmes
The Museum is part of the Public and Stakeholder Engagement (PSE) team which sits in the Stakeholder and Media Engagement Division. The team delivers works across a range of functions all designed to build trust and confidence among our external stakeholders. These include a public outreach programme, stakeholder relations, a public enquiries function, and our work with schools., Due to the operational duties involved in this role the position will be based on-site at the Bank of England Museum.
The Bank of England Museum is open weekdays between 10am and 5pm, on the third Thursday of every month the Museum is open until 8pm and the role holder would be expected to support some of these late openings., Our Approach to InclusionThe Bank values diversity, equity and inclusion. Salary and Benefits InformationWe encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate. This role offers a salary of circa £26,340-£27,000 (FTE). In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below: - A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
- A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
- A 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
- 26 days' annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
