Full Job Description

You will be working alongside our current music instructors, designing and performing a variety of musical sessions within care, SEN, educational, elderly & dementia settings. TIME's lead instructor will accompany you for your first 2 - 4 weeks of employment, dependent upon experience. This will allow you to see first hand the type of approach TIME undertake. Our instructor will guide you through each of these sessions, but will be actively seeking opportunities for you to embrace primary/lead roles whenever possible. In your role, you will be required to :

  • Perform live in front of groups of peoples of all ages and abilities, with attendance numbers ranging from roughly 3 - 25.
  • Design and conduct musical exercises that encourage participation, utilise & develop individuals motor skills, increase confidence & self-esteem, enable participants to discover and express their unique potential.
  • Display a high standard of communication skills and adaptability for people with varying needs.
  • Prepare and rehearse a wide variety of songs, with a selection that ranges from the 1950's, to the present day.
  • You will be involved in debriefing sessions to reflect and monitor attendees engagement and development. We also see these times as an opportunity to discuss new ideas that can be potentially implemented in to the service.
  • Our staff will liaise with you regarding session planning, with the aim being that you can independently structure and deliver your own sessions.
  • In addition, your role may entail some admin responsibilities that include assisting with social media and marketing duties. This will include:
  • Obtaining photos and videos during sessions
  • Preparing multimedia for online promotion
  • Creating and sharing social media posts
  • Having input on flyers and other promotional material design.
  • We also welcome time taken to research relevant articles and information related to TIME's field of profession, or that which will be of benefit to the client groups that we work with. This will include looking in to new methods, techniques and technology that may assist in the development of our practise.,
  • Starting at 14 hours per week across 2 days to be agreed. We would be keen to explore the option of additional hours, which may be available. This will also be dependent on funding.

    You will be employed as a 'Music Instructor' although, if you have music therapy experience or qualifications we would be keen to discuss how to expand the role into this area too., Formal training in a relevant artform or instrument, or equivalent experience.
  • High level of proficiency in a relevant instrument and/or voice.
  • Musicianship suitable for group classes.
  • Communication skills particularly in leading group sessions and adaptability to a wide variety of needs.
  • Understanding of how participation in the arts can achieve social, personal, musical and other outcomes.
  • Knowledge of Care Sector / working with vulnerable adults and children.
  • Experience in group session planning.
  • Driving license.
  • Desirable
  • Professional qualification in music education or community music (e.g. PGCE, CME, etc)
  • Able to read and write music notation
  • Guitar, piano, keyboard skills
  • Music therapy knowledge / experience
  • Tuition experience
  • Understanding of processing personal data
  • Understanding of Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of sign language or other alternative communication skills

We've brought these fun, free-flowing creative experiences to educational institutions, care facilities, recovery and treatment centres, and more.

  • Work is across the Essex area with the main focus in Basildon, Thurrock and Southend although also possible opportunities in Havering/Romford, Brentwood and Chelmsford.
  • 12 month fixed term contract with option to extend dependent on funding
  • Salary - £25,200 - £30,240 pro rata depending on experience
  • 20 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays
