Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce three posts within the Division of surgery. These posts are to commence on 3rd February 2025 until 6th August 2025. The post holders will work standard day shifts only with no on call commitments. These posts will suit trainees who wish to gain exposure to Plastic Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Urology or General Surgery. They are designed primarily for trainees who have successfully completed their FY1 and/or 2 training. These posts are ideally suited to those looking to augment their portfolio for career progression in any specialties. These posts offer the opportunity for applicants to develop skills and gain NHS experience in other areas such as audit and quality/service improvement. Prior surgical experience is not required. Each post holder will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor and are expected to undertake work-based assessments and document competencies for their level of training. There is the opportunity for post holders to pick up out-of-hours shifts on an ad-hoc basis via our bank provider.Main duties of the job Post holders will be required to provide a range of services and will be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education, and study leave will be available as per the Trust policy. The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmental teaching every week. The post holders will work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the service. Duties primarily include:-

  • Ward rounds
  • Pre- and post-operative care of patients on the wards
  • There will be some opportunity to assist Resident Trainees with emergency referrals.
  • Assisting Consultants and Resident Trainees in the operating theatre
  • Attend out-patient clinics.
  • These posts will include cross site working, and standard day shifts only with no on call commitments, which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 junior doctors contract, averaging 40 hours per week. During their tenure the post holders will further develop their core generic skills and contribute more to the education and training of the wider healthcare workforce. At the end of their tenure the post holder will have begun to demonstrate clinical effectiveness, leadership and the decision-making responsibilities that are essential for the next stage of their careers.
