Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated doctor to join our department at an exciting time in our Trusts future. The Department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional with opportunities to develop in specialist fields., The vacancy has arisen in the Trauma & Orthopaedics department for a senior orthopaedic trainee (preferably post CCT) to commence from March 2025 for 12 months. This post has been developed as a training opportunity for registrars preferably post CCT before taking up consultant posts.

In Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, we perform approximately 1,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries every year and approximately 100 revision hip and knee replacement surgeries. There is opportunity for the arthroplasty fellow to train in performing primary hip and knee replacements whilst at the same time getting exposure to complex reconstructive procedures in hip and knee revisions.

The post is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean, although the duties and shift pattern are exactly the same as the training posts and study leave will be encouraged on an equivalent basis to that which applies to the educationally approved SHOs. The post will be on a 1-12 on-call commitment., The main duties of the post will include:

Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.

Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate

Out-patient activities/clinics

Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings

Involvement in relevant administration duties

Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate

Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities

We provide care and support to over a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees in their homes, community settings and across our three hospital sites at Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields (Wakefield).

Always striving for excellence, we are at the forefront of innovation and research, and we invest in teaching and the development of our workforce.

We live by our values of caring, improving, being respectful and maintaining high standards. We listen and learn because we aim to make Mid Yorkshire the best place to work and receive care.

We value diversity and welcome talent and enthusiasm irrespective of age, disability, neurodivergence, sex, gender identity and gender expression, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances including providing unpaid carers support to someone with a health and care need. As ethnic minority groups, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with a disability/neurodivergence are currently under-represented across the organisation, we encourage applications from members of these groups. We have policies and procedures to ensure all applicants are treated fairly and consistently.

We are proud of our staff networks - who offer valuable guidance and feedback from those with lived experience.

We have a clear vision and you could be part of this! If you share our values and you want to make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families and carers, we would love to hear from you.
