Sussex Partnership NHS Trust are recruiting a named doctor for safeguarding children and young people. As a valued member of our team, we would like to invite you to consider this opportunity. The role of the named doctor is to provide expert advice and support to the Trust, ensuring that the best interests of children and young people are always at the forefront of our work. Your knowledge and experience will be essential in designing and executing policies and procedures that promote children's and young people's best interests. To identify and respond to situations of abuse or neglect, you will collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, social workers, and the larger multidisciplinary team. This is a demanding yet rewarding position that allows you to make a meaningful impact in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. The successful candidate will have a strong background in child protection and safeguarding, and will be committed to
working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and external safeguarding partners., To be the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust's Named Doctor for child safeguarding, as required by Working Together and the Pan Sussex Child Protection Procedures.

You will work with the Safeguarding team to provide expertise and ensure that effective safeguarding measures are in place for children and young people across all of the services provided by the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

To contribute to the safeguarding strategy through initiatives including education, training, research, development, change management at work, and organisational development programmes.

To participate in multidisciplinary reviews and work closely with the Named Nurses to provide specific advice, guidance, and safeguarding children supervision to a wide range of health professionals within the organisation.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

  • Full registration with General Medical Council and licence to practise

  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register with the General Medical Council (or within 6 months of appointment), or significant experience in CAMHS services at a senior level.

  • Management qualification/professional qualification or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this level


  • Desirable criteria

  • Fellowship/Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent, Minimum of 2 years' experience of and demonstrable achievement in a consultant or senior role

  • Good understanding of change management and efficiency savings.

  • Experience of multi-agency working and supervising staff.

  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders in the redesign of services

  • Measurable track record in involving and motivating staff to improve performance.

  • Experience in the assessment and management of complex cases with an associated Child Maltreatment or Safeguarding profile.

  • Thorough knowledge of the Safeguarding process and statutory duties upon the Trust., Knowledge of the drivers behind Mental Health and Child Safeguarding Policy.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and openly with staff at all levels, from the Executive Team to frontline staff.

  • Ability to present highly complex and emotive information.

  • An open and facilitative style of leadership which can be adapted when necessary to ensure delivery of objectives.

  • Able to hold senior professionals and peers to account.

  • An understanding of effective systems for integrated governance and the management of clinical and non-clinical risks.

  • Strong performance management skills combining clarity around expectations, direction and holding others to account, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

It is expected that all staff and bank workers familiarise themselves with the appropriate structures and policies and with the Sussex child protection and safeguarding procedures and the Sussex multi-agency policy and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults and undertake the relevant essential training and further training appropriate to their role.

    Successful candidates are normally offered salaries at the bottom of the relevant salary range. However, where previous or equivalent NHS experience in a similar role can be demonstrated and evidenced, this may be taken into consideration when setting the starting salary.
