Full Job Description

This role has been developed within the Trust to ensure statutory requirements are met and to strengthen governance arrangements around safeguarding adult concerns. The post is designed to work alongside the Associate Director for Safeguarding.
The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring the safeguarding process is completed within the time frame and participate in relevant subgroups to enhance the high profile of safeguarding within the Trust. The post holder will demonstrate advanced skills and competencies to influence the pathways of care in the safeguarding of vulnerable people. The role requires a high level of legal literacy of all law that interfaces with the safeguarding agenda. The post holder will work in partnership with local authorities; will be involved in quality assessments on all clinical areas., Provide an authoritative and credible source of specialist and professional clinical knowledge and advice, taking an active role in self-development, reviewing own performance, identifying own needs and taking active measures to meet those needs, in accordance with professional requirements
Lead the safeguarding assurance and safeguarding processes, interpreting national policy and statutory requirement to ensure compliance and best practice is achieved for safeguarding adults
Contribute to safeguarding developments with wider partners locally, regionally and nationally, working in partnership with the Northamptonshire Safeguarding Adults Board and its sub-groups
Maintain effective communication across all Divisions to ensure that safeguarding adult issues that impact on service provision are disseminated across the Trust
Participate in Safeguarding Adult reviews (SAR's) that are relevant to the Trust and ensure that recommendations generated by these are communicated across the Trust and are actioned, monitored and reviewed, Northampton General Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. Ensure learning from safeguarding cases is identified and shared across the organisation
To provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information and advise on strategic and operational planning within the Trust in relation to safeguarding adults and consent to treatment
Support the delivery of robust internal systems to promote a consistent, high quality safeguarding service. This will involve working with senior managers and leaders and front line colleagues across the Trust to develop systems, produce reports, and promote consistent, high quality safeguarding services.
Act as a professional role model, providing evidence based teaching and research, exhibiting advanced practice knowledge which enhances policies and procedures. This will involve supporting colleagues where there are safeguarding issues/protection concerns.
Supporting Patient Excellence
Be highly visible across the Trust and act as a resource to empower colleagues, to ensure that staff are familiar with the relevant local safeguarding procedures and relevant local policies, protocols and guidelines and that these are being followed once safeguarding adult concerns are identified
Demonstrate that adults at risk and their carers/relatives where relevant are involved in both decisions affecting their care and wellbeing, and in service development
Establish, and actively contribute to, networks with other specialists at a local, national level to exchange and enhance knowledge and expertise
Lead where appropriate for the Trust in multi-agency working on complex safeguarding concerns/cases
Champion sound leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice across the Trust and support the safeguarding team
In partnership with clinicians, produce, implement, manage and regularly review policies, procedures and guidelines that reflect statutory requirements and recommendations from local and national reviews and inquiries and embed changes across the Trust
Be accountable in producing data for then Trusts safeguarding activity and effectively manage with operational colleagues any risks that may emerge
To report on a range of information and data in line with internal and external performance standards and requirements including those of the Care Quality Commission,
Northamptonshire Safeguarding Adult Board and Clinical Commissioning Group in a timely manner
Conduct internal management reviews of issues relating to safeguarding adults and ensure that service developments and practices identified as a result of such reviews are initiated
Complement and evaluate practice in accordance with the trusts governance framework ensuring an annual audit programme is in place
Evaluate audit outcomes and monitor action plans to ensure practice development
Maintain the confidentiality and security of all information in accordance with the requirement of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the principles of Caldicott
Lead on the design, development, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of training programmes for safeguarding adults across the organisation
Monitor the effectiveness of Safeguarding Adults training and lead the identification of future training needs through ongoing needs analysis
Create a positive learning environment that encourages and facilitates individual and shared learning and professional development
Contribute to the Northamptonshire Safeguarding Adults Board, multidisciplinary training programme and participate in the Training sub group
In collaboration with the Trust's Named Professionals develop and coordinate joint safeguarding training within the Trust to ensure awareness of safeguarding in the wider

Develop, plan and where appropriate deliver, creative, educational and developmental programmes to meet the diverse range of training needs within the Trust
Develop lead and implement a programme of audit for safeguarding adults and provide statutory assurance to the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Northamptonshire Safeguarding Adults Board
