Full Job Description

ASCL is seeking to appoint a National Officer for ASCL Cymru to undertake casework supporting ASCL Cymru members. The post will cover Wales, supporting the recently appointed Director of ASCL Cymru.

The post requires up-to-date knowledge and experience of the issues facing the senior leadership teams of schools and colleges and the ability to deal with individuals at a senior level. The post will suit applicants with recent experience as leaders of educational institutions or administrators with good experience of school or college management and a strong interest in professional issues.

With a background in educational leadership and proven experience of writing position and policy statements pertaining to Welsh Education, you will play a crucial role supporting the Director to inform on national strategy and policy. With training provided, you will deliver meaningful guidance and support to our Welsh members through the management of the local representatives and provide on-going support and training after their accreditation.

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is the leading professional association and trade union for all school and college leaders. We are proud to support and represent more than 25,000 members throughout the UK in primary, secondary and post-16 education who lead their schools and colleges to help to shape the future of the national education system and provide high quality professional development opportunities.

Wales will be the main location of work. The post-holder will be home based although the role involves frequent travel. There will be occasional contact with and visits to ASCL HQ in Leicester plus regular training sessions that may involve overnight stays. IT and telephone equipment will be provided. This full time role is paid on a five-point incremental range from £63,396 - £70,072 per annum.

ASCL is an equal opportunities employer and offers a very generous package of benefits, including 33 days holiday plus bank holidays and a pension scheme to which the association contributes 9%. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses are also covered, including a working from home allowance. We encourage applications regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
