Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced NEPTS Scheduling Manager to join the busy 24/7 Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Guy's and St Thomas'.

NEPTS is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport due to their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. All requests for patient transport are assessed on medical need. Transport is only provided for patients coming from their home addresses to our Trust sites in South East London, or patients being discharged from our South East London locations to anywhere in mainland UK.

The post holder will ensure that the day to day management of all patient transport journeys are in line with NEPTS key performance targets. They will ensure that all patient journeys are delivered in a safe and efficient manner whilst manging in-house ambulance productivity and subcontractor performance.

The post holder will develop complex plans and actions for the NEPTS Control and Planning Department, informing, influencing and working with the team to deliver solutions and adjusted operational practices to meet operational needs. Be a role model/leader demonstrating the Trust values and appropriate behaviours in day to day operations., Operational Performance Management

  • Ensure effective processes and procedures are in place to monitor and track performance within the Service against the Key Performance Indicators.

  • Responsible for the day to day efficient and effective operational management of NEPTS ensuring the management of resources to achieve the best possible operational delivery.


  • Management and Leadership
  • Leading, developing and managing a team of planners and controllers. Being accountable for providing the Trust with a capable, motivated, stable and engaged workforce.

  • Set objectives and review performance of planning and control staff, identifying individual training and development needs.


  • Quality, Risk and Governance
  • Manage the implementation of effective systems, control processes and risk management arrangements in the service.

  • Support conflict resolution from patients, staff, suppliers, other internal and external service providers and partner organisations in the Service.


  • Financial Management
  • Manage and monitor performance so that the Service meets its financial and operating targets.

  • Manage delegated budget responsibilities for area, identifying savings and implementing plans to reduce costs as appropriate.


  • Strategy, change and service improvement
  • Identify opportunities for service redesign, focusing on a patient centred approach to delivery; contribute to plans which improve and develop services., We are a large busy and friendly team with our own in-house transport team. We support each other and constantly strive to look for improvements in making our service the best it can possibly be for patients. We are part of the ISO9001 standards and with the processes we have in place our yearly external audits have enabled us to achieve positive results.

    Our patient transport service is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. We provide the service to the Guys and St Thomas's sites including Renal and cancer services.
