About the role As a network engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting, maintaining, and developing the network systems upon which all of the Department's IT operations depend. Your work will involve close collaboration with team members and other departments within the University. You will be instrumental in maintaining a high level of service and continuously seeking opportunities to enhance our services and processes. Your responsibilities will include:
- Network and firewall administration: across core, distribution, and access layers.
- Troubleshooting and monitoring: diagnose problems and come up with solutions.
- Design and Development: build brand new systems to replace old ones.
- Communication and Documentation: engage with multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Mentoring and Training: share knowledge and develop your skills., The Engineering Science IT Infrastructure team consists of subject matter experts led by the Infrastructure Manager, who together are responsible for developing, supporting, and maintaining the core IT systems upon which the department's operations rely. The team has four core areas of expertise:
- Networking
- Servers, systems, and storage
- High performance computing
- Security The team is dedicated to delivering high-quality services, offering mutual support, and fostering technical excellence. We actively promote internal support and cross-team collaboration. Our team values flexibility, with many team members working in a hybrid format. Additionally, 25% of the team enjoys non-standard working hours, such as compressed or part-time schedules.
- Extensive experience working with enterprise network systems.
- A keen interest in the field of enterprise networking, with a strong desire to learn new skills and adopt new technologies and practises.
