Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join our Paediatric Respiratory team. This post will provide highly specialist physiotherapy for children presenting with cystic fibrosis, during inpatient and outpatient attendances, as well as outside of the hospital setting in their homes and schools. Community paediatric patients with cystic fibrosis will be managed by the post holder as part of an exceptional multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will need previous experience of paediatric respiratory care and cystic fibrosis, as well as excellent communication and educational skills. Through strong working relationships with patients and families the post holder will achieve excellent job satisfaction. They will be supported by a large proactive paediatric respiratory team and work closely with respiratory consultants and clinical nurse specialists. Please note : This vacancy is only open to existing members of the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team due to funding limitations. The post holder will already be a skilled paediatric clinician with previous or transferrable skills at B 6 or above. They will be naturally empathetic, demonstrating high level communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with both patients & colleagues.

  • To take a lead clinical role to provide & develop a highly specialised physiotherapy service for all children with cystic fibrosis (CF) in the regional centre at BRHFC, St Michaels' hospitals and shared care clinics.
  • To autonomously manage patients with other chronic airway clearance requirements, on an outpatient & clinic basis.
  • As an autonomous practitioner, to use advanced skills in the assessment& treatment of children with CF & ensure high quality physiotherapy treatment in the community.
  • To work within the community as a lone practitioner, working collaboratively with the CF consultants, nurse specialist & dietitian.
  • Provide highly specialist physiotherapy input & advice at CF clinics, annual reviews & peripheral clinics, within the Trust and throughout the South West region.
  • To act as a source of expertise on the management of CF patients & provide an advisory service to patients, physiotherapists, other health professionals and consultants.
  • To provide education, training & teaching to physiotherapy students, healthcare professionals & other physiotherapists, at local, national and international level.
  • Be an active member of the CF physiotherapy specialist interest group (ACPCF)
