Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity to work in the Neurology Specialist Team has arisen. This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice. With a background of nursing, the post holder will work closely with Consultants Neurologists and clinical nursing staff within the NMSK Division and other divisions within the trust towards improving service for patients with neurological conditions. Specialising in and supporting Headache Services, Lumbar Puncture Clinics, Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) Clinic, Dystonia Service, Immunoglobulin Service and Intrathecal Clinic.,

  • Referrals Management: Accept and triage referrals from consultants for headache management.
  • Conduct detailed assessments and reviews of patients with chronic Migraines, including annual evaluations.
  • Administer Botox injections for migraine prophylaxis and evaluate outcomes.
  • Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDM): Discuss complex cases with consultants and pharmacists in MDMs.
  • Patient Support and Education: Provide comprehensive education and support to patients and healthcare providers on headache management.
  • Primary Care Relations: Maintain effective communication with primary care providers, offering support and education on new migraine treatments.
  • Ward Support: Provide support and expertise to neurology wards regarding lumbar puncture procedures.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, including neurology consultants and ophthalmologists, to ensure comprehensive care for IIH patients.
  • Case Discussions: Collaborate with the team to discuss and manage challenging cases.
  • Home Care Coordination: Liaise with home care services for patients receiving immunoglobulin therapy at home, ensuring regular reviews and monitoring of their treatment.
  • Panel Meetings: Participate in monthly local panel meetings to discuss and review cases, ensuring alignment with the latest guidelines and practices.
