Full Job Description

We are looking for talented journalists with experience in newsdesk shifts to provide additional late weekday and weekend cover to our digital breaking news team. Late editing shifts are incredibly important to the needs of the business. This is an exciting opportunity for journalists to showcase their talent and contribute to i's growth. Successful candidates will be responsible, passionate about digital storytelling and be able to cover big breaking news stories late into the evening. The late breaking editor is also responsible for making sure the homepage looks good, as well as ensuring stories published in the evening are promoted via i's social channels, app and through notifications. Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead late online news shifts, ensuring breaking news is covered late into the evening.
  • Promote late stories and exclusives on i's homepage, via social media and through push notifications.
  • Pitch and write news stories, including detailed explainers and long form reporting.
  • Find innovative ways to go beyond straight news reports, when writing and commissioning.
  • Good knowledge of media law and the Editors' Code of Practice.
  • Commitment to i's editorial standards of impartial and incisive coverage. Appreciation for i's audience and tone, and how to write stories that will appeal to our readers.
