The Prime Minister’s Office enables the Prime Minster to deliver the Government’s overall priorities and to communicate the Government’s policies to Parliament, the public and international audiences. From the Policy Unit, Press Office, Switchboard and Custodians, to the Events & Visits team and the Private Office support; the diverse Downing Street team draws on varied expertise from across the Civil Service and beyond. The teams come together to deliver excellent service to the Prime Minister while also making No10 a great place to work., The Digital team at the Prime Minister’s Office is at the forefront of communicating how government policy impacts the lives of people throughout the United Kingdom.
This role offers an experienced photographer an exciting new challenge, playing a critical role in capturing the daily activities of the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers and events in 10 Downing Street.
Your work will be seen by millions of people and has the potential to make a huge impact on their lives. Through visual story telling your work will help communicate the government’s key messages and will cover events at the forefront of the news agenda.
You will promote the work of ministers and the wider government visually, helping to stop the scroll and grab the attention across 10 Downing Street social media channels.
You will need to come up with creative ways of telling the stories of how the work of government impacts people’s lives and simplifying complex policies to cut through with the general public.
You will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders including ministers, press officers and Special Advisors., + Work closely with the Head of Digital Communications to ensure that we capture and promote the work of the Prime Minister and Ministers, as well as the government more widely through visual means.
+ Take the lead on capturing imagery during domestic and overseas visits, ensuring imagery is of a high quality.
+ Develop and manage relationships with press officers, special advisers, private office and events teams to ensure that imagery and digital content is an integral part of all media planning.
+ Play a leading role in upskilling the digital communications community across government, working with other Heads of Digital to ensure consistent high standards.
+ Maintaining the Prime Minister’s photographic Archive.

Please note that this role requires SC clearance, which would normally need 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. This is not an absolute requirement, but supplementary checks may be needed where individuals have not lived in the UK for that period. You are a talented Photographer - with a portfolio to match and experience working in media, whether in news, television, sports, social media, PR, or a similar role.
You are a creative, flexible and a self-starter, able to work independently and use your initiative to make sure deadlines are met.
You have a solid understanding of how images work across different social media platforms work.
A good understanding of politics is desirable, although it is more important that you can translate complex communications into relatable digital content that people want to engage with, often within very short timescales., + Proven experience in photojournalism, ideally for a national or regional publication or agency.
+ Proven track record providing photography for a variety of social media and traditional media platforms.
+ Proficient in using photo editing platforms such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Photo Mechanic.
+ Good eye for a picture and the story that the picture is trying to tell.
+ Expertise in digital content and photo platforms.
+ Previous content management experience, ideally in a related area.
+ Knowledge of high-end cameras and the expertise to use of them.
+ Experience of filing live from camera and delivering at pace.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to learn quickly.
