Full Job Description

As a Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for a portfolio of clients in excess of ÂŁ250k. You will be delivering multiple assignments to agreed deadlines, reporting directly to Senior Managers, Directors and Partners. You will have a particular focus on Non-Profit organisations, so you will be able to demonstrate the highest technical standards in these areas. Our Non-Profit clients include charities, schools, Oxford colleges, membership bodies, religious organisations and NHS charities, as well as commercial clients. You will be a fantastic communicator, with the ability to explain accounting concepts to clients and you will have the confidence and credibility to attend board and subcommittee meetings and to participate in tender activity. You will be required to fully immerse yourself in the sector and the area, attending client premises, seminars and the occasional evening event. You will take responsibility for developing junior staff and will support the Firm's values and act as a role model for your team members. Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will need to have a positive team attitude and a demonstrable commitment to the highest levels of audit quality and first-class client service. Role in audit team

  • Day to day contact with MKS team, clients, HMRC and other professional advisors.
  • All aspects of audit and accounts assignment management:
  • oJob planning; oBudgeting; oTime management; oDelegating to, and supervising of, team; oSubsequent monitoring of team progress and managing projects; oDetailed review of file, debriefing team with a key focus on feedback; oTax Compliance if required and liaising with Tax Specialists if needed; oFinalisation of file for Partner review, including the calculation of Corporation Tax; oSubsequent submission to HMRC and Companies House.
  • Ability to use IT and knowledge of various packages including ProAudit, CCH, Excel, Word and PowerPoint would be useful but not essential.
  • Promoting the interests of the firm with all employed by the firm, clients, prospective clients and other third parties.
  • Motivation and encouragement of team, providing timely constructive feedback.
  • Staff Management
  • Overseeing and mentoring trainees during their training contract providing assistance when required.
  • Assisting in the motivation and supervision of staff (especially trainees).
  • Assisting staff in finding suitable work to keep them fully occupied, also ensuring their development and progress and all staff are fully debriefed after jobs.
  • Assisting with in-house training and learning and development
  • Considerate, prompt and SMART feedback to junior team members.
  • Providing upward feedback.
  • Practice Development
  • Attending client gatherings or client seminars on an ad hoc basis.
  • Identifying account development opportunities with clients and progressing these in liaison with the Partner.
  • Assisting with preparation and presentation of new client pitches.
  • Administration
  • Providing innovative ideas to improve systems currently in practice with regards to client or staff matters.
  • Undertaking billing procedures for your clients.
  • Assisting with debt collection where appropriate in liaison with client partner.

    Qualified in ACA or ACCA, or internationally recognised chartered accounting qualification
  • 1 - 2 years PQE.
  • Experience of running own portfolio.
  • Current portfolio must have a minimum of 40% audit work.
  • Non-Profit audit experience.
  • An understanding of Corporate Tax and VAT.
  • High level of familiarity with UK auditing and accounting standards.
  • Ideally will have used Proudit and CCH in current role but not essential.
  • Technically excellent.
