Full Job Description

In the absence of the Matron, you will coordinate the overall management of the department working with the multi professional team. You will be expected to: To utilise and develop specialist skills in order to provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised patient care. To promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their children. To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with the childs family/carers, the multidisciplinary team, other departments with the trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation. To actively participate in and contribute to the management of the clinical area. To act as a mentor, teaching and supervising junior staff including student nurses and health care support workers. KEY RESULT AREAS: Clinical Responsibilities 1) Using evidence-based practice and a holistic approach to individualised nursing care, assess, plan,
implement and evaluate care for children without direct supervision. 2) To actively support and promote the involvement of parents/carers in care by working together in partnership. 3) To safely administer prescribed medications and to monitor their side effects, adhering to local and trust policy. 4) Ensure the legibility and accuracy of documentation, in such a manner that enables the information to be effectively handed over to other staff/appropriate personnel. 5) Adhere to all official recommendations, guidelines and regulations relating to child protection. 6) Reports any accidents/untoward incidents/unsafe practices involving patients and/or staff to the Senior Nurse/Clinical Nurse Manager.
