Full Job Description

To provide individual episodes of care to a client group based on assessment of physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs. To demonstrate a high level of clinical decision-making and an ability to monitor and improve standards of care. To work within his/her own scope of professional practice. To work closely with the multi-professional team to develop the nurse endoscopist service and provide expert nursing practice without direct medical supervision but within agreed Trust protocols. To work unsupervised in the provision of clinical care to patient. To provide training and education to the multi-professional team, patients and their relatives.Main duties of the job Work as an autonomous practitioner undertaking diagnostic & therapeutic investigations for patients requiring GI endoscopy procedures. To ensure these lists run efficiently and effectively To act as an excellent role model and develop own clinical expertise keeping abreast of changing developments in endoscopy practice. To provide quality patient standards in accordance with those identified in the GRS and JAG. To ensure that families and carers are involved in the planning and provision of care where this is appropriate. To participate in the formulation and development of clinical governance action plans. To actively participate in the Endoscopy Users Group. To ensure that nurse lead clinics are organised and run effectively. To recognise and refer to appropriate primary care services for clients with acute/chronic conditions. To demonstrate critical thinking and reasoning skills in diagnostic decision-making To document all relevant information regarding the client according to Trust standards. Where agreed, to dispense medication to the client using agreed protocols. Where appropriate, to select, perform and interpret screening and diagnostic laboratory tests, as agreed in protocols. To evaluate results of intervention using accepted outcome criteria, revise the plan of care, where appropriate, and consult/refer when needed. To provide a 'follow-up' service within the consultant led clinic., To be fully involved in national training programme for Endoscopy To be actively involved in the orientation and training of new Nurse Endoscopists and New Registrars. To ensure all practice is governed by the GRS and JAG requirements for training To comply with the Quality Standards outlined in the GRS. To identify poor practice and take steps to rectify the situation. To advice on the training needs analysis which reflects the future needs of the service in collaboration with the Endoscopy Manager/Matron and Clinical Lead for Endoscopy. To liaise with the Endoscopy Manager/Matron, Specialist Nurses, Training centre, Corporate Nursing Team and external providers to ensure appropriate educational opportunities for personal, professional and service development. To work collaboratively with the senior staff to ensure that all staff have an appraisal and a personal development plan. To take an active role in Teaching, formally and informally. To participate in ensuring all the Direct Observation of Practice forms are completed. To play an active role in health education and educating patients about their lifestyles. To participate in audit and research activities in conjunction with the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Team To work alongside the Endoscopy nursing team in the development of recognised endoscopy courses and in-house teaching programmes. To promote a seamless service of care through liaison with all relevant Health Care professionals and set up appropriate systems.

  • Teaching qualification - ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Train The Trainer Endoscopy Course

  • Desirable criteria
  • Management/ Leadership Course
  • ILS provider course
  • Bowel Cancer Screening Accreditation
  • Masters in relevant field Management/ Leadership Course, Recent and regular experience in a clinical practice setting of at least one day/week
  • Experience in running lists
  • Experience in teaching and training registrars
  • Experience and evidence of working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Evidence of leadership, practice development, expertise and innovation in clinical practice.
  • Evidence of participative approaches to the introduction of change and a history of participating and implementing in change.
  • Significant experience in a senior nursing post in Endoscopy
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience in setting in setting up clinics, Expert knowledge in anatomy and physiology Experience in achieving clinical standards for decontamination.
  • Awareness of changes and developments in endoscopy via JAG, GRS, BSG guidelines
  • A good understanding and demonstration of standards of professional care in line with NMC Standards, Transformational leadership ability
  • Research skills and commitment to the development of research mindedness
  • IT & Database knowledge/skill
  • Able to articulate highly complex and sensitive clinical topics, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
