Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Nurse Practitioner within the NCCC Ambulatory Care Unit. You will join a supportive, forward thinking and innovative multi-disciplinary team who are committed to providing the highest standard of patient care to regional oncology and haematology patients. This is a new role within the department and the successful candidate would be expected to engage in the ongoing development of the service alongside developing their clinical skills to support patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies and supportive care. A key part of our Nursing and Midwifery strategy is to have an empowered and skilled workforce, who are responsive to the needs of patients.   • Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to: Provide clinical assessment of patients attending the department for systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and supportive careDeliver SACT and supportive care to patients as determined by treatment protocols Work collaboratively with the MDT team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the development of innovative treatment pathways and engaging with MDT meetings Co-ordinate if patients attend the department unwell, recognising clinical emergencies such as neutropenic sepsis or adverse reactions to therapies, utilising knowledge base and clinical skills to manage patients and support staff in these situations Perform telephone follow-up and review remote monitoring systems as required Act as a patient safety and clinical quality champion, ensuring that services delivered to patients are safe and of a high quality Ensure the patient is at the centre, reinforcing the concept of a streamlined patient journey and improving the quality of care Provide support, mentorship and training. e.g. to students, ward nursing staff and peers
