Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered Nurse to join the Teenage and Young Adult Team (TYA), within the Cancer Directorate at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the role of TYA Clinical Nurse Specialist for 30 hours per week., The TYA team provides specialist care to teenagers and young adults through all stages of the condition within an in-patient, outpatient, and community setting. We predominantly provide a psychosocial support service for patients (19-24) and their carers throughout the Northeast and Cumbria, but you would also be expected to key work clinically, a diverse range of conditions, and carry a case load of patients. The postholder will be required to work at the Principal Treatment Centre (Freeman Hospital) but also contribute to the wider regional TYA Service and take responsibility for patients being treated in other Trusts where there is no TYA service.

The TYA CNS will work closely with the Youth Support Coordinator to provide peer support in various locations with a variety of events and have the potential of attending national TCT events with patients.

Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites

o Health Innovation Neighbourhood (on the former Newcastle General Hospital and Centre for Ageing and Vitality site)

o Newcastle Dental Hospital

o Newcastle Fertility Centre

o Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria

o Northern Genetics Service

o Cramlington Manor Walks

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.

We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
