Full Job Description
To provide effective, evidence-based care to the new-born in the designated clinical area under the indirect supervision of registered practitioners. The individual will be required to plan, organise and deliver clinical care as agreed with the supervising practitioner. The post holder will continue to develop and undertake a range of delegated tasks and delegated authority and will report to a Registered Practitioner. The staff member is to provide high quality individualised infant care of neonates gestational age of 34+0 and over 1. Will be able to perform and plot neonatal clinical observations, to include the monitoring and recording of the following vital signs: Temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and oxygen saturation 2. Escalate any deviation from normal behaviour or vital signs to the Midwife in charge/ Paediatrician 3. Perform and record neonatal blood glucose levels utilising blood glucose monitoring equipment. Escalate any deviation from normal Midwife in charge/ Paediatrician. 4. Demonstrate an awareness of implications of any abnormal findings and reporting thereof. 5. Perform capillary blood samples for blood sugar, serum bilirubin and PKU. 6. Calculate fluid volumes. 7. Care for IV Cannula. 8. Obtain requested neonatal specimens and ensure transportation to appropriate pathology department. 9. Demonstrate knowledge in line with BFI (Breast Feeding Initiative) and be able to assist mothers to breastfeed, cup feed and bottle feed when necessary or instructed. 10. Assist mothers to express breast milk and care for the equipment required. 11. Take infants to Neonatal Unit for administration of IV antibiotics at the specified time required. 12. Provide appropriate care for an infant receiving phototherapy. 13. Use heated mattresses to assist infant to maintain temperature control. Professional 1.
