Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse carry out responsibilities that will include:

Undertake venepuncture on the day unit and outpatient setting supporting our ANP clinics.

To carry out clinical observations on patients, recording and reporting all changes in patients' condition to senior staff.

Undertake the escort of patients to other departments under the direction of the registered nurse.

To assist with the patient care and paperwork during Bone marrow procedures on the unit.

When assisting with patient care, reassure and provide comfort to them.

Document and sign for all observations and care given.

To maintain his/her own professional development, attending courses/further training to enhance and optimise his/her role within the work area.

To promote and safeguard the wellbeing of patients, their families and colleagues.

To share responsibility for the care and maintenance of all the specialist equipment on the unit.

To respect the confidential information, in line with Trust policy and Data Protection Act, obtained in the course of work and not disclose this information.

To be familiar with and adhere to Trust and Departmental policies and procedures mindful of responsibilities to self, colleagues and patients.

Report untoward incidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies and injury, to senior staff.

You will need to be versatile with a great attitude for learning and be prepared to work independently within the unit, whilst always having access to a support network around you.The Haematology Day Unit healthcare worker plays a crucial and active role in achieving the smooth day to day running of the Haematology Day Unit. The post holder will work closely with consultants, nurses, admin colleagues and other professionals to provide a high-quality service to all staff, our patients and their relatives. The post holder will be required to undertake venepuncture for haematology patients and will assist with the care of patients undergoing bone marrow procedures.
