Full Job Description

As a Nursing Assistant in the Chemotherapy Day Unit, your main duties will include:
+ Assisting in PICC Line Dressings: Support the nursing team in cleaning and redressing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC lines) to maintain infection control and patient comfort.
+ Scalp Cooling Set-Up: Prepare and assist in setting up the scalp cooling equipment for patients undergoing chemotherapy, aimed at reducing hair loss.
+ District Nursing Referrals: Co-ordinate and manage referrals to the district nursing teams for patients requiring continued care after leaving the unit.
+ Stock Management: Ensure the Chemotherapy Day Unit is well-stocked with medical supplies and equipment, helping to maintain an efficient working environment.
+ General Support: Assist with patient mobility, personal care, and emotional support. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
+ Clinical Observations: Taking and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and oxygen levels, and reporting any significant changes to the nursing team.
+ Reception Cover: When required, covering the front desk due to annual leave or sickness, including greeting patients, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments., + To act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
+ To ensure that patients' receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
+ Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
+ Report immediately to the Nurse in Charge any observed change in a
patient's condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing or medical treatment to maintain patient safety and improve communication.
