A Nursing Associate is a member of the Nursing team in England that helps bridge the gap between Health and Care Assistants and Registered Nurses.
Nursing Associates work with people of all ages, in a variety of settings in Health and Social Care. The role contributes to the core work of Nursing, freeing up Registered Nurses to focus on more complex clinical care.
This makes sure that everyone entering the profession has the skills they need to care for people safely, with integrity, expertise, respect and compassion from the moment they start.
Like with Nurses and other Healthcare Professionals, Nursing Associates can expand their knowledge and skills with the right training and governance. The intention is for nursing associates to support, not substitute, Registered Nurses.
Candidates must have an active NMC Nursing Associate registration., Main duties to include:
+ Undertaking clinical tasks including venepuncture and ECGs.
+ Supporting individuals and their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses.
+ Performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse.
+ Discussing and sharing information with registered nurses on a patients' condition, behaviour, activity and responses.
+ Ensuring the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times.
+ Recognizing issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable adults., The Nursing Associate (NA) will assist the nursing team in the delivery of direct care to patients within Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The NA will be required to provide care independently providing a holistic, high quality, patient focused, comprehensive, efficient and safe service for the patients cared for at Kettering General Hospital acting with responsibility, accountability and integrity as directed and delegated by the nurse in charge, including the delivery of care to meet a cohort of patients; admission and discharge processes, meeting the physical and psychosocial needs of patients; and will be included within the registered staff numbers. This post works within a multidisciplinary team with registered and non-registered staff.
Standards of practice at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KGH) are aligned to the standards set out by the Nursing & Midwifery (NMC) The Code.
Standards of practice and care, at KGH, also encompass the Chief Nursing Officer's 6 C's campaign and concentrate the nursing agenda on Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, and Commitment. The post holder may be required to rotate through other wards and departments as required to support Trust business and nursing care. The post holder will act at all times in accordance with the NMC code and local standards of care and policies., Applications will be transferred to TRAC system, by completing an application your are giving authorisation for the transfer of your data.

In submitting an application form, you authorise Kettering General Hospital (KGH) NHS Foundation Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) process. Including factual reference, occupational health clearance and statutory and mandatory training record.
If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £13. New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.
Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
