The job holder will act as operational obstetric modality Lead Sonographer for Newham university hospital ultrasound department and be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and management of the ultrasound service. The post holder will provide clinical support and mentoring to the diagnostic imaging team of Sonographers, Students, Imaging Assistants and Administrative and Clerical staff and actively develop the service in conjunction with NHS guidelines and directives.

The Obstetric modality Lead Sonographer will undertake both clinical (50%) and managerial (50%) duties and when appropriate deputise for the ultrasound modality Manager, will assist in the co-ordination, management and allocation of staff and resources within Diagnostic Imaging as appropriate. They will operate effectively within the team of modality superintendents. They will attend meetings as requested by the Imaging general Manager, which may include attendance at such meetings in the absence of the Ultrasound Manager. He / she will ensure staff promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.
