Full Job Description

We are currently looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the team in Maidstone- based at Priority House, Hermitage Lane, Maidstone

Community mental health services are going through a national restructuring, putting a new emphasis on delivering interventions, of which Occupational Therapy is identified as key to service provision. We have an established team of OTs that we are looking to expand as we provide more group and individual interventions to our service users.

The role would include completing OT assessments and interventions. The intervention may be completed by the successful candidate, or by OT apprentices, support workers or junior team members under supervision.

We are also increasing our offer of group work looking at supporting complex service users to develop skills for daily living as well, and others to develop and strategies to manage their mental health recovery., We are looking for an occupational therapist with experience, skills and an interest in working with service users who have complex mental health needs. You must have some experience of working with mental health service users as a qualified practitioner. We are looking for a practitioner with good communication and liaison skills who is forward thinking and enthusiastic regarding innovative ways of working.

You will be part of a group of occupational therapists within the larger team and will be supported by a lead occupational therapist and operational team managers. You will also have the opportunity to provide supervision and support to junior OT staff as well as support workers.

OT is valued as a core part of the MDT and the post holder will be working in a team with a variety of professionals. There is opportunity to develop skills in OT as well as wider team functions.

The right candidate should be able to support junior team members and take a lead in the management of the OT work across the team with other band 6 colleagues and the area AHP lead.

This post would suit an experienced band 6 looking to develop new skills, but also support can be given to the right candidate to develop from a band 5 post into this position.

Come and work with us in the Garden of England where we combine exceptional professional development opportunities with a tremendous quality of life.

We are Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT), providing mental health, learning disability and specialist services, serving 1.8 million people across the county.

You will be joining friendly, passionate colleagues, rich in their diversity, who are committed to providing excellent care to our service users and their loved ones.
