An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and motivated individual to join the Elderly Medical team as a static Band 6 Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist within the Therapy department at Northampton General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.
Do you have a special interest in working with the elderly population? Do you have the skills and experience to work with the often complex medical, physical, psychological and social situations our patient have? This is the opportunity for you! It is essential that you have excellent communication skills as many of our patients have either physical or cognitive deficits that affect their abilities.
This role will help you develop specialist clinical skills for working with the elderly and frail cohort of patients, as well as allowing you the opportunity to be involved in staff development, audit and service improvement.
We welcome applicants looking to further develop their band 6 skills or those seeking development into their first band 6 role, with support from our 'Therapies Leadership Development Programme' delivered to support with this transition. You will also receive regular supervisions from the Clinical Leads ensuring you are working towards your personal development plan.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be a preceptor in our newly established Preceptorship programme, supporting newly qualified staff settle into their role as an autonomous practitioner., As an Occupational Therapist:
+ To perform more advanced and detailed assessments of patients presenting with a wide range of complex conditions and comorbidities; providing a plan and goals to develop, and to deliver an individualised treatment programme to our patients in Elderly Medical ward areas.
+ To work closely with Physiotherapy colleagues to provide joint therapies assessments and treatment plans enabling efficient use of Therapies Team resources.
+ To manage a caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow when ward base
As a Physiotherapist:

This post involves treatment to children and/or adults at risk, as defined by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). It will therefore be necessary for the post holder to apply for and be in receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check. (this statement relates to patient facing clinical roles)
The Trust requires all new starters to subscribe to the DBS update service, where it is a requirement of the role.
Be responsible for maintaining own vaccinations that are applicable to the role.
Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
Attend statutory and mandatory training and refresher courses as necessary.
