Full Job Description

We are looking for a new Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join our dynamic team in the Occupational Therapy service based at Bowmere Hospital, Chester. The successful applicant will be working with adult mental health service users, who are currently placed within our High Intensity Rehabilitation Service. This comprises of 2 wards, one of which has step-down beds for service users on the forensic pathway. The Occupational Therapy service aims to support service users toward independence and safe discharge, using a person-centred approach.

An adaptable and creative approach is required with an expectation to support individual recovery plans for service users as required to meet need. The postholder will work as part of the Occupational Therapy team to plan and facilitate a varied programme of therapeutic activities and skill building, working in small groups or individually with service users. These activities take place on the ward and in the community. The aim of the OT service on the rehabilitation wards is to enable service users to learn relevant life skills and increase their independence on their recovery journey. Our service users have functional mental illness and several also have issues meaning they have spent a period of their lives in secure settings. The post holder will also be contributing to daily living skills assessments and interventions and help to co-ordinate the running of the OT service in the rehabilitation setting., We have a well-resourced Therapy department and an established Therapy service. Supervision is provided by a senior Occupational Therapist.

We are looking for a caring, creative and organised person who has a genuine interest in promoting wellbeing and recovery for people experiencing mental illness.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication and team work skills and enjoy working in a busy hospital environment. Applicants will be required to have evidence of relevant experience and have an understanding of person centred working and the 6 Cs.

This post is full time, Monday - Friday. To meet service need, later work shifts may be required on some days up until 7pm- this would be negotiated and would be planned ahead as a regular shift pattern. We support continuing professional development and clinical supervision.
