This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway. SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule.About the role (External) Are you looking to join an organisation where you do meaningful work every day? Our On Train Technician roles are your first step into a rewarding career with Network Rail We have an exciting opportunity for a On Train Technician who will be working with a fleet of infrastructure monitoring vehicles inspecting and monitoring the network 24/7, making sure they are fit-for-purpose and compliant with relevant legislation safety and standards. You will be working Ultrasonic and Structure Gauging Trains which work with some of the most advanced cutting edge rail technology! Next Steps: Further Opportunities? Due to the level of rail exposure and technical detail you gain from this role, this would be a great way to develop into a technical setting. What Training Can I expect? Your commitment to self-development and continuous learning is hugely important in this role and we'll provide you with all the training to develop both technical skills and non technical skills. You will have inhouse classroom training, followed by a period of supervised on the job training and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment. What Are My Working Hours? Shift work. Youll also need to be comfortable with working away from home for periods of time. Whats the local area like? You will need to live within a commutable distance of the Derby Trent House site and will need access to your own transport to allow for the different shift rota patterns. This role involves days, nights and weekend working and the job is safety critical. Offers of employment are subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment and BPSS pre-employment checks. Main Responsibilities
- Undertake infrastructure condition monitoring and other relevant data collection activities , in accordance with applicable standards and work instructions
- Identify, verify and record all infrastructure defects and faults presented by the on-train systems and report defects and faults to the nominated control centres
- Record and report vehicle defects, system failures and other reasons for the non-collection of data in accordance with company procedures
- Manage the delivery of valid data, reporting when this has not been achieved
- Support the review and monitoring of system functional performance, working with the Measurement Systems Maintenance team to develop and deliver remediation activities as required
- Manage the calibration of monitoring and test equipment to defined standards and undertake functional checks, maintaining records on a daily basis
- Support the validation, calibration, product acceptance and implementation of new and existing examination technologies, systems and vehicles as required

- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
- Substantial technical experience in measurement systems in a rail environment.
- Ability to produce formal written reports. Desirable
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
- Membership of an appropriate engineering institution.

Salary range: £29,072 pa then rising to £30,201pa on successful completion of training plus £3,100pa Operational Allowance + Overtime
