Full Job Description

ISP School is an independent specialist provision serving children and young people (CYP) in Kent and Medway who live with their families, foster carers or in residential children's homes.
Our school supports CYP with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Communication and Interaction, Cognition, and learning needs.
We provide high quality education, adopting a holistic and tailored approach, complemented by a full range of support services, for each and every one of our pupils.
The role of a Progress Engagement Guide (PEG) at ISP School is to work alongside teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils whilst also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion. In addition, a PEG will assist pupils to access the curriculum, participate in learning and support them to make better choices around their behaviour and attitude to learning.
At ISP teaching assistants are an integral part of the school and play a crucial part in the success of the pupils. They often offer holistic support to a pupil outside of the classroom setting. They build positive, professional relationships with the pupils and their parents and give pupils the best chances of academic and personal success.
Role responsibilities
+ Dedicated to mentoring and supporting one pupil or else a small group of no more than five pupils
+ Supporting the Classroom Teacher during lessons
+ Reporting on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaising with other School staff to ensure pupils needs are met
+ Supervision of pupils during non-classroom time including extra-curricular activities and school trips
+ Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation
+ Setting work where appropriate, and marking
+ Building positive relationships with your pupil/s and driving interaction and positive learning outcomes, + give teaching and learning the highest priority and develop relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher
+ promote inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extra-curricular activities
+ use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school's policies
+ communicate effectively and sensitively with pupils to adapt to their needs and support their learning
+ maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment by organising and managing physical teaching space and resources
Working with Others
An ISP PEG is expected to
+ Recognise and respect the role and contribution of other professionals, parents and carers by liaising effectively and working in partnership with them.
+ Understand their role in order to be able to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other colleagues
+ Communicate their knowledge and understanding of pupils to other school staff and professionals, so that informed decision making can take place on intervention and provision.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, cost of which will be met by ISP School Teynham.

INDCOMHP

+ Have a strong basic education. Acquire at least a level 2 qualification in Maths and English and sound IT skills.
+ Previous experience in a similar role ie, Teaching Assistant
+ Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an Educational setting and demonstrate expertise and skills in understanding the needs of all pupils and know how to adapt and deliver support to meet individual pupil needs.
+ Demonstrate a level of subject and curriculum knowledge in designated curriculum areas and apply this effectively to support learning
+ Be experienced and confident enough to be able to lead on a specialism ie, Reading, Mathematics, Forest School etc
+ Experience of behaviour management and techniques
+ Committed to professional development and willing to learn
+ Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work. Any costs incurred will be met by ISP.

Salary: £19,000 prorated
Hours: 30 hours 9am - 3.30 Mon - Thurs 9am - 1pm Friday
