Full Job Description

This is a rare opportunity to work in an open access books role at a leading independent arts, humanities, and social sciences publisher. Reporting directly to the Global Director, Research and Open Access within our Academic and Professional division, you'll help to shape open access at Bloomsbury. Your role will have a wide remit, working with teams across the business to support, enable, and expand our open access publishing.   • Be an internal source of knowledge about open access (OA), and provide support and training on OA across Bloomsbury's academic divisions.
  • Support the academic editorial teams in identifying OA commissioning opportunities and developing OA commissioning strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of Bloomsbury Open Collections, our collaborative OA funding model.
  • Create and maintain internal OA guidelines and workflow documents.
  • Provide input into systems and workflow changes to improve OA processes.
  • Keep track of external developments in OA and communicate these to Bloomsbury staff.
  • Conduct desk research and analysis in support of OA projects at Bloomsbury.
  • Compile regular reports on OA activity at Bloomsbury.
  • Provide project management support for major OA projects.

    Experience working in academic book publishing or in an open access role at an academic publisher or library.
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
  • Resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries and suggesting new approaches.
  • Proven ability to work positively and collaboratively with colleagues and internal stakeholders.
  • Places a high value on author care, company reputation and sustained customer relationships.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong numerical skills, including proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Able to analyse evidence, question assumptions, and draw conclusions from qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Knowledge and understanding of open access.

    The role is a full-time permanent position.
  • Salary Range: £40,000-£48,000 per annum The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office-based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Wednesday and Thursday.
