Full Job Description

We are currently looking for a number of Open Spaces Operatives to join our Open Spaces Team at Thanet District Council. The role of Open Spaces Operative includes a range of grounds maintenance tasks across Thanet including grass cutting (ride-on and push mowers, strimmers), hedge cutting, weed control (using our hot foam machines as well as manual - no herbicides), maintaining beds and borders, as well as assisting with other tasks such as tree planting.

You need to be physically fit to undertake this manual role throughout the day, with a large amount of walking included. Previous experience in a similar grounds maintenance role, along with experience of driving a vehicle with a trailer is desirable, however, full training will be provided to the successful candidates. You will come in contact with open space visitors on a regular basis so you need to be able to deal with a range of enquiries including complaints. Importantly, you need to have a desire to make a difference to the residents and visitors of Thanet, along with a strong work ethic including to work in all weathers.

This is a great opportunity for someone that has previous experience in a similar role and/or has an interest in the outdoors and is willing to work hard to make a difference.

This is a full time position, working from the Open Spaces Depot in Margate. Working hours are set as 7.30am to 3.30pm (3pm Friday) with an unpaid 10 minute break and 20 minute lunch programmed into the day., Disability Confident
