Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Newham's Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIS) for the post of Operational Team Lead for a 12 month secondment, or fixed term contract. EIS provides a service to people, age 18-65, who are residents of Newham and have experienced a recent onset of psychosis. The Service objective is to enable these service users to recover rapidly and fully, avoid a pattern of recurring relapse or loss of social functioning, traumatic hospitalization and social exclusion. We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational leader to operationally lead the Team in collaboration with the Clinical Lead. The post holder must have expertise and passion for working with service users experiencing first episode psychosis.,

  • Take overall operational management responsibility for the EIS including the day-to-day management of all members of the team.
  • Ensure services provided by the EIS team are organised in a responsive way, of the brand of a standard of professional practice and performance to meet the needs of Newham's diverse community.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in place and adhered to by all EIS team members, to deliver services to young people with a recent onset of psychosis.
  • Ensure that care is provided through a whole team approach as recommended in Early Intervention in Psychosis best practice literature.
  • Be a key member of the operational leadership team alongside other mental health services in the Newham Directorate and wider system partners.
  • Facilitate a learning environment for all EIS staff and students and others involved with the first episode user group.
  • Provide specialist professional clinical and managerial skills and knowledge to the team via training, supervision, consultation, and joint direct clinical work with service user., To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality, appropriately targeted services that operate within the priorities of the trust.
  • Oversee and facilitate decision making around the provision of direct service user care, with the EIS team. Ensure that services are developed and provided within the EIS team, which are of the highest standard in terms of fair access, equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice. To participate in Newham's out of hours oncall manager rota. Ensure that procedures are in place in the EIS team to support receipt of referrals, assessments, allocation and closing cases. Ensuring systems are in place to register and review service users under the Care Programme Approach. Ensure systems are in place to respond promptly, appropriately and in an open manner to complaints and queries about the work of the EIS. Investigate serious incidents and complaints to the EIS team in line with Trust policies and procedures, providing reports for management as required. Ensure all corporate, locality and team policies and procedures are communicated and implemented within the EIS team. Work closely with the appropriate departments to ensure systems (administrative, I.T, finance, health &safety) are in place to support the work of the EIS. To be a member of the Trust wide El Steering Group. Working with the Associate Clinical Director, Service Manager, staff and Senior Clinicians in the team to take responsibility for leading the development of the team, encouraging a whole system approach to care and development of transparent, high quality, appropriate models of practice. To directly supervise a few EIS team members in accordance with EIS policies. To ensure all members of the team receive high quality supervision either from the post holder directly or from other experienced team members. Arrange regular staff meetings, team building and team training as appropriate, seeking to create a working environment, which is open, honest, supportive, and constantly moving forward. Identify gaps or inadequacies in service provision or organisational structure that impede effective provision of services for clients and make appropriate representations for systems change. Ensure best possible working relationships are under constant development in the team, seeking input from professional leads as necessary. To meet regularly with professional groups and their representatives to foster effective multi-disciplinary working. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local GP's, police, Adult Social Care and Education Providers, Employment services and other voluntary Groups. Attend meetings, forums, working groups to represent the EIS, on behalf of the team or specialist services and, as appropriate, on behalf of the Directorate Management Ensuring that all staff and users of the EIS adhere to the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation. Taking responsibility for ensuring that Trust procedures are followed and that staff members attend mandatory training. Lead on the recruitment and selection of staff within the EIS in accordance with Trust selection procedures. This will involve devising and placing job adverts, chairing interview panels, selecting and inducting new staff to the team. Be responsible for recording, monitoring and reporting on clinical work and communicating complex clinical information to a variety of recipients, e.g. Service users, families and carers, other professionals, MAPPS and other formal panels and statutory and· voluntary organisations, orally, in writing and/or electronically. Ensure systems are in place for monitoring sickness absence leave, leave and -study leave of team members. Taking management action as required. that are in line with Trust policies. Provide the Service Manager with regular feedback on the progress of the EIS. This will include the drafting of an annual report. Work with other managers and the leads for clinical governance in the Trust to implement performance management systems, ensuring services and treatments provided by the EIS are appropriate and effective. Prepare as requested, reports for the Deputy Borough Director, Directorate Management, Trust Board, Court, Mental Health Tribunal etc. Ensuring Health and Safety risk assessments are regularly undertaken of the EIS environment, taking immediate action to deal with any problems, which might affect service users, visitors or staff.
