Full Job Description

As the Operations Manager at Substation, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the daily functionalities of our centre. This multifaceted position requires a balance of strong managerial skills, operational efficiency, and strategic planning to ensure that all facets of our operation-including climbing, fitness, and yoga-run seamlessly. You will lead a dedicated team while enhancing member and visitor experiences, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment conducive to climbing and wellness.,

  • Leadership and Management: Lead a diverse team of route setting and coaching staff, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture that prioritises customer service and operational excellence.

  • Operational Oversight: Ensure the smooth functioning of daily operations, coordinating activities while ensuring adherence to safety regulations and best practices.

  • Software and I.T: Managing and training staff in our existing software and I.T functionality and proactively seeking ways to simplify and streamline the digital customer experience.

  • Coaching Oversight: Overseeing our coaching offering from introductions to climbing, right through to our brand new academy and everything inbetween.

  • Community Engagement: Develop and implement community-focused events, workshops, and competitions that enhance our reputation as a hub for climbers and fitness enthusiasts, providing opportunities to connect through both sports and wellness practices.

  • Financial Administration: Oversee budgeting and financial management for all aspects of the centre, optimising resources while ensuring that we provide the highest quality experiences for our members and visitors.

  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce health and safety policies across all areas of the centre, conducting regular reviews and updates to protocols to create a safe environment for climbing, fitness, and yoga enthusiasts alike.

  • Maintenance: ensuring all maintenance throughout the centre is kept up to scratch, we pride ourselves on the quality of experience we offer our customers and a fully functioning centre is a huge part of this.

  • Improvement Projects: visualising and implementing centre improvements and leading the development of new facilities within the business.

    Substation isn't just a rock climbing centre; it's a dynamic community committed to fostering a love for climbing, fitness, and well-being. Located in the vibrant heart of Brixton, we cater to an enthusiastic mix of climbers and fitness aficionados, offering rock climbing, yoga, and fitness classes for individuals of all levels. We are currently seeking an experienced and organised Operations Manager to join our team and help us elevate our centre to even greater heights., Experience: Proven management and/or operational experience in a climbing wall-with prior experience in route-setting and climbing coaching being highly desirable.

  • Organisational Skills: Exceptional ability to develop and implement structured operational processes and software management while maintaining a flexible approach to challenges.

  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with a diverse clientele and inspire your team across multiple disciplines.
