Content Delivery Operations (CDO) is a vibrant 24/7 team responsible for the entire file-based delivery workflow for broadcast BBC TV, BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button services throughout the UK.
The CDO team is the integral link between production of a programme and bringing it to our audiences. CDO validates and then distributes BBC programmes for Playout, Access Services, Archives and other key stakeholders across the BBC. The team captures live programmes off-air and guarantees all pre-delivered assets pass quality control checks. As well as video, CDO also manages audio and works alongside BBC Radio & Music to publish and replace files for BBC Sounds. CDO monitors and publishes the BBC Red Button service which includes activating calls to action graphics, links to red button streams and the BBC Text service.
The aim of the role is to work as part of a team on a regular shift pattern, including weekend and night shifts, to ensure the smooth running of operational workflows required by our live services, including TV and iPlayer and to ensure that the capability to deliver those services is maintained. An Operations Technician (OT) in the Content Delivery Operation will undertake defined processes within a range of workflows as well as working to resolve any issues encountered or escalating.
Main Responsibilities
The role works as part of a team to ensure the delivery of operational workflows for iPlayer, Red Button and BritBox services and requires the role holder to:
( Maintain a current understanding of the operational workflows employed to validate, share and/or publish programmes and Access Services (Subtitles and Audio Description) files.
( Identify any issues with delivered files or workflows and understand how and when to resolve these issues.
( Support the evolution of processes over time as the services and technology develop, feeding into conversations around process and, where appropriate, updating documentation.
( Focus on quality, and ensuring that best standards are maintained in order to ensure the smooth running of various workflows.
( Spot trends, quirks or anomalies that may impact the efficient or effective running of a system or workflow and, where appropriate, flag these for investigation or suggest areas of improvement.
( Prioritise actions in line with that understanding, and guidance from senior colleagues
( Log incidents and issues to a high degree of accuracy and with appropriate levels of detail to enable colleagues to investigate and resolve any issues.
( Appreciative of particular events or areas which occupy our focus as a broadcaster and how this affects a given workflow, and our treatment of it.
( Ensure that the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act, Working Time Directive and other workplace related legislation are observed.
The successful candidate will have a passion for television and online platforms and ideally demonstrate some experience working in media, post production or creative environments. You will be a good team player with good attention to detail that has good communication skills and can offer the flexibility to work shifts as the team and the role requires.
Essential skills:
( Good understanding of end-to-end operational workflows; their purpose and typical requirements
( Appreciation of the requirements of a workflow from a technical perspective - how components are inter-reliant and how they impact the workflow if they experience issues
( Experience of overcoming challenges in operational processes, and typical actions to fix
( Able to spot indicators which suggest an issue within a workflow, whether through proactive monitoring or responding to an unexpected variation
( Appreciation of support structures, and the principles of escalation in cases where a fix is required but cannot be performed
( A high degree of computer literacy

Please note: This is a 35 hour per week role requiring shift work spanning 365 days per year including nights and weekends. Overtime is available and shift bonus's are paid. Shifts are usually 10 hours per day/night on a rotation basis.
