Full Job Description

We are looking for a new Ophthalmic Assistant to join our Suffolk site. This will be 40 hours over 5 days per week including weekends on a rota basis., Performing the runner function in the operating theatre,assisting a multidisciplinary team of theatre practitioners and the surgeon, todeliver safe and efficient service to surgical patients. Managing the relationship with the patient and the provision ofappropriate information to them, ensuring that exceptional customer service isdelivered. Management of patient data; ensuring availability, requiredaccuracy and confidentiality. This may involve retrieving patient records fromand returning them to the Trust, liaising with Newmedicas central operationsteam, updating Newmedicas electronic patient records and producing andproviding letters to patients. Performing, verifying and recording results of clinical testingwith absolute integrity. Working with other clinic staff, including clinicians to ensureoptimal patient flow, including assisting them if required. Undertaking other ad hoc and administrative tasks as required toensure the smooth running of the clinic. Appropriate escalation of process, clinical, equipment, qualityor infection risk issues. Maintaining a positive relationship with client teams at everyinteraction. Committed to continued professional development and clinicalgovernance, including participating in appraisal process, completion ofmandatory training and clinical audits and research as required., Our Ophthalmic Assistants are the face of Newmedica theyre often amongst the first people that our patients interact with on clinic visits and so having a welcoming, friendly, empathetic approach is vital. Its a busy role - youll be seeing a number of patients each day to take them through a range of diagnostic tests. These will be passed onto a senior clinician to ascertain if surgery or further treatment is required. You will also perform the role of the theatre runner on a rota basis, assisting a multidisciplinary theatre team through complicated eye surgery. Youll be using a variety of different equipment and systems so were looking for someone who is comfortable using systems and is fairly tech savvy. The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with, so our Ophthalmic Assistants need to be able to put patients at ease. They also need strong communication skills to be able to explain the purpose of the different tests to ensure the patient understands their treatment.   • Proven customer service skills with a passion for customer care. Previous experience of working with patients or carers would be desirable although not essential.
  • Ability to build a working knowledge of eye physiology and treatment. Previous experience is not expected.
  • Fully computer literate - comfortable with Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn new patient record systems.
  • An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
  • Experience of dealing with a variety of data for example patient records, GP and patient correspondence and diagnostic test results
  • A good team player happy to jump in and support others when required
  • Qualifications Essential
  • A good level of general education or with equivalent experience
  • GCSE Maths and English
