You can also read more information about University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay visiting our website https://www.uhmb.nhs.uk/ The Unit provides a comprehensive secondary care service in all aspects of Orthodontics including the management of hypodontia and patients that require orthognathic surgery in conjunction with our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry teams. There is an active orthodontic Managed Clinical Network which includes the local acute Trusts and specialist practitioners across the Lancashire & South Cumbria region. The unit consists of 1 Consultant Orthodontist, 1 Apprentice Orthodontic Therapist and an overseas MTI Specialist Orthodontic Trainee.,

• Assesses own learning needs and ensures a personal development plan reflects both clinical practice and personal objectives.
Patient Safety & Quality Improvement Essential
• Takes prompt action where there is an issue with the safety or quality of patient care, raises and escalates concerns through clinical governance systems where necessary.
• Collaborates with MDT and interprofessional teams to manage risks and issues across organisations and settings
  
  Full GDC registration with a licence to practise at time of appointment
• Entry on the Specialist List for Orthodontics
• BDS or equivalent degree in undergraduate Dentistry
• MFDS
• M.Orth or equiveillance
Desirable
• F.Orth RCS ISFE M.Sc in Orthodontics, Have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) recognised taught Orthodontic Postgraduate course

  The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLan School of Dentistry in Preston. The teams has recently been joined by Honorary Consultants in Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Periodontics, based at UCLAN and there is scope for further development in this area.
There are offices, secretarial and computer facilities on all of our sites. We have and electronic EPR and PACs system for radiography and digital photography across the Bay. There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with high quality and skilled technical support. You should be fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice and ideally be on the specialist list for Orthodontics, We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a full-time Specialty Doctor in Orthodontics to join our busy Orthodontic team. This post attracts 6 PA's in total with set working days of Monday, Thursday and Friday. The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary but will also involve clinical activity at other sites within the Trust. For the successful candidate the job plan will be negotiable.
