Full Job Description
This is a potential development role, with either the opportunity to commence as a band 6 until you have completed an Advanced Clinical Assessment course and complete 2 years in the role, when you will be promoted to Band 7 Orthoplastics Nurse Co-ordinator. Alternatively, if you have already achieved these requirements the post will be an immediate band 7 role.
You will be actively involved in assessment of patients (including paediatrics), and coordinate orthopaedic & Plastic Surgery trauma activity within the Emergency Department, wards, theatres and clinicsWe are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to and is able to work in a busy and challenging environment; is able to prioritise workload and seek help from senior colleagues.
You will be a registered nurse with an extensive knowledge of trauma orthopaedics and plastics. The ability to navigate your way around and confidence in working with software applications is essential. We would welcome applicants who are looking for a challenge in this busy and exciting environment and are able to cover weekends when required to do so. You will be working closely with and be well supported by experienced and friendly orthopaedic and plastics trauma team and world class surgeons., To comprehensively assess orthoplastic trauma patients, assist and co-ordinate trauma activity within the Orthopaedic Service. Liaising with various health care professionals to ensure that each patient's hospital episode is managed in the most effective and efficient way and in line with trust strategy on nursing, midwifery and patient centred care.
To improve the scheduling of surgery for orthoplastic trauma patients, minimise cancelled operations and minimise pre-operative starvation times.
To assist in the data collection pertaining to these issues by means of quantitative/qualitative audit, clinical trials, on-going monitoring and general feedback. This may involve liaising with or working across multiple sites
To maintain close liaison with patients, carers, and the multi-disciplinary team.
To develop extended skills to safely perform delegated tasks and functions associated with the trauma and orthoplastic patient pathway, supporting the patient journey and ensuring that care and outcomes are continuously improved.
To assist with Virtual Fracture Clinic across multiple sites
Recruitment of patients to clinical trials (following GCP training)
To attend ward rounds and prepare patients for theatre including cannulation and phlebotomy
