Full Job Description

The Outpatient's Department are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our friendly and supportive team as Deputy Manager. This role will involve working closely with both the Outpatients Manager and Matron promoting the delivery of high-quality safe patient care, daily fulfilling a range of responsibilities (please see main duties of job for further information) This ethos will be shown by being a supportive, experienced senior staff member whilst demonstrating excellent leadership for both our registered nurses and healthcare assistants. You will do this by having oversight of clinical areas and staff ensuring that processes and polices are maintained, the Trust behavioural standards are being adhered to whilst taking overall responsibility for recognising and responding appropriately to any situation that may occur. The successful candidate will be expected to work within all areas of Outpatients at both The Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital sites. The Outpatient Department covers clinics from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday with some Saturdays and Sunday working from 8am to 6pm., This role will involve working closely with both the Outpatients Manager and Matron promoting the delivery of high-quality safe patient care, daily fulfilling a range of responsibilities including but not limited to: -

  • Carrying out appraisals and continuing professional development of trained and untrained staff including action plans.
  • Managing attendance of staff, using HR policies provided.
  • Dealing with any HR concerns, have a professional link and monthly meetings, including action plans and assisting with re validation.
  • Eroster - Creating and maintaining of the rosters to ensure safe staffing levels and skill mix. Ensuring 6 weeks of rota is provided for staff and to meet service needs of staffing clinics appropriately.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
  • Undertaking audit and being committed to monitoring standards of care that leads to the improvement in patient care and thereby contributing to department accreditation and striving for excellence.
  • Implement SOP's, LOCSSIP's, policies and procedures and be able to feed back at governance committees and staff meetings.
  • Be responsible and committed to, implementing and updating our back-to-basics campaign and ensuring staff completion of our six steps campaign for all staff.

    The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
  • The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000. The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
